Amazon plans to invest more than €16 billion in Germany by 2027, the group announced on October 20 in Berlin during the Invest in Germany government summit. After Spain, which secured a €33.7 billion package last March, it is now Germany’s turn to benefit from these investments. This program is intended to support the American giant’s activities in cloud, artificial intelligence, logistics, and digital services.

AWS to focus €4.8 billion on Frankfurt

The cloud division AWS plans to invest €4.8 billion by 2027 in expanding its Frankfurt region and its AI-dedicated infrastructure. The stated goal is to meet the demand for cloud and computing services, as companies multiply projects around generative AI. This investment follows a program announced in 2024, which planned €8.8 billion for German data centers between 2024 and 2026. The group did not specify what portion of the new spending will be dedicated specifically to AI capabilities.

Germany is an important market for AWS, which provides services to industrial and commercial companies, including BMW, Siemens, Adidas, and Zalando. The increase in local capacity is intended to support their hosting, storage, and computing power needs. AWS also offers a solution for organizations subject to digital sovereignty requirements, the European Sovereign Cloud, available in Germany since January 2026. This infrastructure, separate from other AWS regions, is located in Brandenburg. According to the provider, content and metadata created by customers remain within the European Union, and operations are managed by personnel residing there. Amazon plans to invest €7.8 billion in this project by 2040, a commitment separate from the €4.8 billion announced for Frankfurt.

Robotics, logistics, and satellites

Amazon also plans to open a second robotics and AI research lab in Berlin. The group wants to work there on interactions between humans and automated systems, particularly in the context of its logistics operations. The project will involve researchers as well as engineers specialized in hardware, software, and robotic systems.

The logistics component includes modernizing several distribution centers and new real estate projects. According to Amazon, these already announced operations are expected to create more than 3,000 additional logistics jobs in Germany, though the group did not specify what portion of these new jobs will be created in 2027. The program also includes developing the Amazon Leo satellite network, formerly called Kuiper, continuing logistics projects, and funding new productions for Prime Video. The detailed breakdown of the €16 billion across these different activities was not disclosed.
