Announced on October 27, this Series A is led by Threshold Ventures, with participation from Optum Ventures (UnitedHealth Group), Mantis VC, and SV Angel. Y Combinator and Gradient, the AI-focused seed fund launched by Google, also contribute to the financing. “There is no debt: it’s 100% equity,” Taieb Bennani, co-founder of Vera Health with Maxime Allouch, told JDN.
A medical AI that combines multiple models and verifies its sources
Vera Health offers a conversational interface designed for caregivers, capable of searching for information in peer-reviewed scientific publications, medical guidelines, and drug leaflets. The system combines several AI agents with RAG technology, which allows searching for relevant documents to support the answers.
Unlike an assistant based on a single model, Vera distributes request processing among several systems. “For each question, more than five different models work together: one understands the question, another ranks relevant passages, another writes, another verifies the answer,” explains Taieb Bennani.
Each answer is accompanied by scientific references and a reliability score established based on the methodology of the cited studies. The system also prioritizes national recommendations, notably those from the Haute Autorité de santé in France.
According to the company, new publications are integrated daily and recommendations from learned societies are verified weekly. Retracted studies are excluded, while AIs responsible for quality control review samples of answers based on evaluations conducted by doctors.
800,000 users and a business model focused on institutions
Vera Health now claims 800,000 users, compared to a few thousand in October 2025. Access remains free for caregivers, while revenues come from integrations offered to healthcare institutions.
Its paid offer Vera Spaces allows hospitals, clinics, and practices to connect their internal documents, integrate patient records, and automate certain clinical processes. “We do not display advertising, and no partner can modify an answer, its sources, or its level of evidence,” assures Taieb Bennani.
A team of twelve people and projects in France
The start-up currently employs twelve people and claims to have achieved most of its growth with a team of six employees. Its research and development is based in San Francisco, with a predominantly French team.
The new funding will mainly be used to enrich the medical knowledge base, adapt answers to different countries, and develop partnerships with healthcare institutions and learned societies. In France, Vera Health is also preparing new products based on HDS hosting, dedicated to health data, for which procedures are already underway.
